6 Best Running Accessories For Women — The Ones I Never Run Without

After nearly 30 years of running I have tried just about every accessory on the market. Most of them are nice to have. A few of them are non-negotiable.

This list is the non-negotiable best running accessories for women. The things I reach for every single time I head out the door — rain or shine, spring or a 20 degree upstate New York winter morning. If it is not on this list I can run without it. If it is on this list I genuinely do not want to.

JBL Vibe Beam True Wireless Earbuds

Music and podcasts are what get me through long runs and the JBL Vibe Beam earbuds are the ones I trust to deliver. They stay in place even during hot sweaty workouts — which is the real test for running earbuds — and the battery life is genuinely impressive so I am never scrambling to charge them before a run. JBL Deep Bass sound means my playlist actually sounds great and the water resistance means they can handle whatever the weather throws at them. A run without good earbuds is a much longer run.

Non-negotiable because: Music and audio keep me motivated and moving mile after mile

Knockaround Deja Views Polarized Cat Eye Sunglasses

I own two pairs of these — one in bright pink and one in classic black — and I reach for them on every outdoor run. The lens is big and wide for excellent UV400 eye coverage from every angle, and most importantly they do not bounce around. At all. If you have ever spent a run pushing your sunglasses back up your nose you know exactly how much that matters. Polarized lenses reduce glare beautifully and they come in a fantastic range of colors. A sunny run without these feels wrong.

Non-negotiable because: Eye protection and zero distraction from bouncing frames

FlipBelt Classic Running Belt

I own two FlipBelts and that tells you everything. This slim stretchy running belt holds my phone, keys, and cards without bouncing or shifting during a run. It lies completely flat against my body so I forget I am wearing it — which is the highest compliment I can give a running belt. Compatible water bottles slide right in for hands free hydration on longer runs. I genuinely do not know how I ran without one.

Non-negotiable because: Hands free carrying without any bounce or bulk

Garmin Forerunner 265

best running gear for spring women over 50

A good running watch changed how I train and the Garmin Forerunner 265 is the one I trust. It is a great size — not too bulky, not too small — and the run productivity feedback it gives you goes beyond just pace and distance. It tells you whether your body is actually responding well to your training which is invaluable information for running smarter not just harder. I pair mine with the Runna app which sends each day’s planned workout directly to the watch and delivers real time pace feedback as I run. That combination has genuinely elevated my training.

Non-negotiable because: Smart training feedback and real time pace guidance on every run

Noxgear Tracer2 Light Up Reflective Running Vest

Safety is non-negotiable on every run and the Noxgear Tracer2 is how I make sure drivers can see me. It lights up in multiple colors with steady and blinking modes and makes me visible from a long distance away. I wear it even on cloudy days because being seen on the road is not something I leave to chance. Very adjustable fit, excellent battery life, and multiple light settings. It goes on before I step out the door every single time.

Non-negotiable because: Being visible to drivers is a safety issue not a preference

POM Pepper Spray Runner Model

I have been bitten by a dog on a run. I have had several other serious incidents with aggressive dogs over the years. I carry pepper spray on every outdoor run without exception and the POM Runner Model is designed specifically for this purpose.

The stretch fit glove holds it securely in your hand while you run without you having to think about it. The flip top safety cap stays securely closed until you need it — and when you do need it, it flips open easily and fast. 35+ bursts and a 10-12 foot range give you real protection at a safe distance. This is not a nice to have. This is essential safety gear for any woman who runs outdoors.

Non-negotiable because: Personal safety on the road is not optional

Build Your Running Kit

You do not need all of these on day one. If I were starting from scratch I would begin with the FlipBelt and the Noxgear vest — practical, affordable, and immediately impactful on every run.

Add the earbuds and sunglasses next. Then invest in the Garmin when you are ready to take your training more seriously. And carry the pepper spray from day one. Always.

The right accessories do not just make running more comfortable — they make it safer, smarter, and something you genuinely look forward to. That is worth every penny.
