Best Sports Bras for Women Over 50 (That Actually Support You)

Let’s talk about sports bras. Specifically the ones that actually work — that stay in place, provide real support, and do not require a wrestling match to get off after a sweaty workout.

Finding the right sports bra after 50 takes a little more intention than it used to. Our bodies have changed and our bras need to keep up. The good news is that there are some genuinely excellent options out there at every price point and every support level.

These are the sports bras I actually wear and recommend.

What to Look for in a Sports Bra After 50

Support level. Match your bra to your activity. High impact for running and cardio, medium impact for cycling and weightlifting, low impact for yoga and stretching. Wearing the wrong support level for your activity is one of the most common sports bra mistakes.

Padding. Many women over 50 prefer a little padding for shape and coverage. It is entirely a personal preference but worth looking for if it matters to you.

Underband. A wide firm underband is your best friend — it provides the foundation of your support and keeps everything in place. A narrow or flimsy underband is a recipe for rolling and riding up mid workout.

Getting it off. This sounds funny but it is real. A soaking wet sports bra that is impossible to remove is genuinely frustrating. Crossover straps and front closures make life significantly easier.

Best Overall: Nike Women’s Swoosh Sports Bra

This is my personal favorite and the one I reach for most often. The Nike Swoosh has great compression, removable pads for shape and coverage, and comes in a fantastic range of colors — which as anyone who reads this blog knows matters a lot to me. It provides solid support for medium to high impact activities and fits true to size. A reliable and well designed bra from a brand that knows what it is doing.

I even recommended this one to my daughter who is in her 20s – and it passed her test too! It’s now also her favorite.

Best for Extra Coverage: RUNNING GIRL Crisscross Back Longline Sports Bra

If you want extra coverage and support around the torso the longline design of this RUNNING GIRL bra is a game changer. The crisscross back is both functional and flattering, and the longline cut means you get coverage below the bra line that a standard sports bra simply does not provide. Padded for shape and supportive enough for high impact activities. A great option for women who want a little more coverage during their workouts.

For serious support during high intensity workouts this RUNNING GIRL racerback delivers. The crop tank style means it doubles as a workout top on its own, the push up design provides shape and lift, and the support level is genuinely impressive for a sports bra in this price range. I love how much support you get from this one — it does not mess around.

Best for Comfort: CRZ YOGA Naked Feeling Strappy Padded Sports Bra

CRZ YOGA makes some of my favorite workout pieces and this strappy sports bra is no exception. The standout feature is the wide underband — it stays in place and does not roll up no matter what you are doing, which is exactly what you want from a sports bra. The Naked Feeling fabric lives up to its name and the strappy back detail makes it cute enough to wear as a workout top on its own.

Best for Easy On and Off: Under Armour Women’s Crossback Mid Impact Sports Bra

Here is something nobody talks about enough — getting a soaking wet sports bra off after a hard workout is genuinely difficult. The Under Armour Crossback solves this beautifully. The crossover straps make it significantly easier to remove than a traditional pull-over style bra, and the comfort level is excellent throughout the workout too. Mid impact support makes it perfect for cycling, weightlifting, and moderate cardio. A very practical and well thought out design.

A Note on Fit

Sports bra sizing can be tricky and varies significantly between brands. Always check the size chart before ordering and pay attention to reviews that mention fit — if multiple reviewers say it runs small go up a size.

A properly fitting sports bra should feel snug but not restrictive. You should be able to fit two fingers under the band but no more. The straps should not dig in or slide off your shoulders. And there should be no spillage or gaps in the cups.

If you are between sizes in sports bras size up. A slightly looser fit is always more comfortable than one that is too tight.
