Let’s talk about feet. Specifically runner’s feet.
After nearly 30 years of running I can tell you that runner’s feet are a special category of feet. They work incredibly hard, they take a beating, and during peak running season they can get — let’s be honest — a little rough around the edges. Blisters, calluses, black toenails, tight calves, plantar fasciitis — these are the occupational hazards of being serious about running.
The good news is that with the right products and a little regular attention you can keep your feet healthy, comfortable, and even presentable (!) no matter how many miles you are logging.
Here is my complete routine for runner’s foot care.
Table of Contents
Blister Prevention and Treatment

Dr. Frederick’s Original Hydrocolloid Blister Bandages Blisters are a runner’s most common and most annoying foot problem. Hydrocolloid bandages are the gold standard for treating them — they create a moist healing environment that speeds recovery significantly faster than a regular bandage. Waterproof and designed specifically for heels and toes where runners are most prone to blisters. Keep a supply in your gym bag and your medicine cabinet at all times.
Great for: Blister treatment, hot spot protection, heel and toe blisters
Insoles for Running Comfort

Dr. Scholl’s Run Active Comfort Insoles The insoles that come with most running shoes are adequate at best. Upgrading to a dedicated running insole can meaningfully improve cushioning, arch support, and overall comfort on longer runs. The Dr. Scholl’s Run Active insoles are designed specifically for running with targeted cushioning in the heel and forefoot where impact is highest. Trim to fit which means they work with any shoe. A simple and affordable upgrade that your feet will notice immediately.
Great for: Extra cushioning, arch support, women who spend a lot of time on their feet
Plantar Fasciitis Relief

United Ortho Plantar Fasciitis Adjustable Leg Support Brace I struggled with plantar fasciitis for about four months — that sharp stabbing heel pain that makes every morning step feel like a punishment. This brace cured it. I wear it at night to keep the plantar fascia gently stretched while I sleep which prevents the painful tightening that causes that horrible first-step pain in the morning. It is adjustable to fit either foot and comfortable enough to wear through the night. If you are dealing with plantar fasciitis this brace is worth trying before anything more invasive.
Great for: Plantar fasciitis relief, overnight stretching, heel pain
Nail and Callus Care

COSLUS Cordless Electric Nail Drill My nails get really ugly during peak running season. Black toenails, thickened nails, calluses that build up from miles of friction — it is the reality of being a serious runner and there is no shame in it. This cordless nail drill gets everything presentable quickly and easily without the effort of manual filing. Professional results at home without a salon visit. A practical and time saving tool for runners who want to maintain their feet without spending hours on maintenance.
Great for: Callus removal, nail care, runners who struggle with thick or damaged nails during heavy training

Toe Separators for Bunion Relief Runners are prone to bunions and toe crowding from hours in running shoes. Orthopedic gel toe separators gently realign your toes and provide relief from bunion pressure. Use them during pedicures, while relaxing at home, or as part of your regular foot care routine. Soft, reusable, and washable — a simple tool that provides real relief for runners with toe and bunion issues.
Great for: Bunion relief, toe alignment, pedicure prep, post run relaxation

Orly Breathable Treatment and Color Nail Polish Runner’s toenails need all the help they can get. Orly Breathable formula allows oxygen and moisture to pass through the polish which promotes healthier nails underneath — particularly important for runners whose nails take a beating during training. It works as both a treatment and a color so your toenails can look great while actually getting care they need. A thoughtful upgrade from regular nail polish for active women.
Great for: Nail health, runners who want color and treatment in one step
Recovery and Relaxation

Dr. Scholl’s Tired Achy Feet Soothing Foot Mask After a long run or a hard training week your feet deserve some serious attention. These warming foot masks are incredibly comforting and relaxing to use — you slip them on, sit back, and let the soothing ingredients do their work. A small act of self care that makes a real difference in how your feet feel and recover. Three pairs per pack means you can make this a regular part of your post long run routine.
Great for: Post run recovery, tired and achy feet, weekly foot care ritual

Coach Soak Magnesium Lotion with MSM Magnesium is one of the most important minerals for muscle recovery and this lotion delivers it transdermally — through the skin — which many people find more effective than oral supplements. The formula is cooling, smells amazing, and makes sore feet feel better very quickly. I apply it before sleep and wake up with feet that feel significantly less fatigued than without it. The lavender scent is calming which is a bonus when you are trying to wind down after a hard training day. A non-greasy alternative to epsom salt soaks that fits easily into a nightly routine.
Great for: Post run recovery, muscle soreness, leg cramps, nightly foot care
Stretching and Mobility

ProStretch Original Calf Stretcher Tight calves are one of the most common contributors to foot problems in runners — including plantar fasciitis, Achilles issues, and general foot fatigue. The ProStretch is the most effective calf stretching tool I have found in nearly 30 years of running. I keep mine tucked under my kitchen cabinets and use it while I am cooking — a few minutes of calf stretching while I wait for water to boil has become one of my favorite daily habits. Made in the USA and built to last. I have had mine for ten years.
Great for: Calf tightness, plantar fasciitis prevention, Achilles health, daily stretching
The Bottom Line
Your feet carry you through every single mile you run. They deserve regular attention and care — not just when something goes wrong but as a consistent part of your training routine.
It’s always important to invest in your feet, but it feels even more significant now that I’m 50+. I’m doing it because I want to run as many more miles as possible!
