There is no shortage of fitness apps out there. There is, however, a shortage of honest recommendations for best fitness apps for women over 50 who actually use them consistently.
I am not going to give you a list of apps I looked up online. I am going to tell you exactly which apps are on my phone, why I use them, and what they have done for my fitness routine. Every single one on this list earns its place every day.
Table of Contents
Garmin Connect

If you have a Garmin watch Garmin Connect is the app that brings all your data to life. It syncs automatically with my Forerunner 265 and gives me a detailed picture of every run — pace, heart rate, elevation, cadence, and the run productivity insights that tell me whether my body is actually responding well to my training. I also pair it with the Runna app which sends each day’s planned workout directly to my watch. Garmin Connect is the hub that ties my entire running life together and I check it after every single run.
Best for: Garmin watch owners, runners, tracking training data and progress
Do you need a Garmin watch? I am very happy with my Forerunner 265. Check it out here.
Peloton

Seven years of consistent use and the Peloton app is still one of my favorites. Even if you do not own a Peloton bike the app gives you access to an enormous library of workouts — cycling, running, strength training, yoga, stretching, meditation, and more. The variety is honestly what keeps me coming back.
Some days I want a hard ride with Jess King who is basically glitter in human form. Some days I want a calm meditation with Denis Morton whose music choices are consistently wonderful. The app has something for every mood and every energy level and that flexibility is what has kept my streak alive for over seven years.

Best for: Peloton owners, women who need workout variety, anyone who wants world class instruction at home
I have been working out with Peloton consistently for over seven years. Read my post about the secret to my Peloton streak here.
RENPHO Health

The RENPHO Health app connects to my RENPHO smart scale and gives me a comprehensive picture of my body composition — not just weight but body fat percentage, muscle mass, bone density, and more. As an active woman over 50 tracking these metrics matters more than just watching a number on a scale. The app tracks trends over time so you can see progress even when the scale number is not moving. It syncs seamlessly and the interface is clean and easy to read.
Best for: RENPHO scale owners, women who want to track body composition not just weight

Lose It

Lose It is my calorie and nutrition tracking app and I have used it consistently as part of my approach to maintaining a caloric deficit. The food database is enormous which makes logging quick and easy, and the interface is intuitive enough that tracking does not feel like a chore. It also tracks macros which is helpful when I am paying attention to hitting my protein goals as a pescatarian. A straightforward and reliable nutrition tracking tool that does exactly what it promises.
Best for: Calorie tracking, macro tracking, women working toward a caloric deficit
Zero

Zero is the app I use to track my intermittent fasting windows and I love it for its straightforward simplicity. You start your fast, you stop your fast, and the app tracks everything clearly. No overwhelming features, no confusing interface — just exactly what you need to stay consistent with your fasting routine. It is free for the basic features which is genuinely all most people need. Search for Zero Fasting in the App Store or Google Play to find it.
Best for: Intermittent fasting, 16:8 protocol, women who want simple fasting tracking
I’ve been intermittent fasting since 2020. Here’s my post with more info on my fasting experience.
Calm

Calm is my go-to app for winding down at the end of the day and the sleep stories are my favorite feature. There is something genuinely soothing about settling in for the night with a well narrated sleep story — it gives your mind something gentle to focus on instead of replaying the day. As an active woman over 50 sleep is a non-negotiable part of recovery and Calm has become part of my nightly routine. It also has guided meditations, breathing exercises, and relaxing music if stories are not your thing.
Best for: Sleep support, stress relief, winding down after an active day
Habit Tracker

This is the app that quietly keeps everything else on track. Habit Tracker lets me set daily habits and check them off as I complete them — and it syncs with Apple Health to track things like water intake automatically. Staying hydrated as an active woman is something I have to be intentional about and having it tracked and visible makes a real difference. There is something genuinely satisfying about checking off your habits at the end of the day. It is a simple concept that works remarkably well in practice.
Best for: Building daily habits, tracking water intake, syncing with Apple Health
